João Lopes was born in Braga, Portugal and went to the University of Minho in Guimarães where he studied Engineering and Management of Information Systems. He obtained his master's degree in August 2020, having decided to proceed to the PhD program in Information Systems and Technologies (IST).

He belongs to ALGORITMI Research Centre where he is developing his research work in several topics such as Adaptive Business Intelligence (ABI), Machine Learning, Big Data, DevOps and Artificial Intelligence, with focus on eHealth and Medical Informatics, having already relevant publications in these areas.

He is developing his PhD thesis on clinically valid ABI systems, cooperating with several hospitals in the implementation of this intelligent systems.

Currently, he is also an Invited Assistant Professor at the Information Systems Department, School of Engineering, University of Minho, Portugal, where he has been supervising several students in the development of their MSc dissertations.
